Stereo switch S70 1998

Hi Brickboarders, Happy Thanksgiving

My daughter owns a '98 S70 GLT with the single CD SC-816 stereo. I have a SC-901 that I removed out of my recently totaled '01 C70.

I thought that I would switch the stereos so that my daughter would have a 3 CD changer in her car. I made the switch and the SC-901 fit perfectly and all of the connections were identical to the SC-816 that I removed.

When I put in the code and powered up the SC-901 it displayed various radio stations, but no sound on any station. I put in a Cd and I could tell if was playing, but again no sound.

Has anyone made a similar switch and had a similar problem? I am not sure why I have no sound from the SC-901 stereo. I replaced the SC-816 back in her car and it worked just fine.

I would apppreciate any suggestions that anyone on this board may have for me.

Thank you, Fred.

The 816 has an internal amp. The 901 requires an external amp. The amp is either under the pass seat or in the cavity behind the radio. Did you save the amp from the wreck?

Bob, thanks for your message. No, I did not salvage the external amp from the 901. Can I purchase another one and install it so that I can make this swap and have it work in the GLT? Thanks, Fred.

f,

They are usually available for sale on e-bay in the $150.USD range for 400 watt.

Also, look for the Dolby surround sound processor.

I replaced the SC-816 on my S70 with the SC-901, Dolby processor, center speaker and Dynaudio tweeters. The other speakers are OEM and of middling quality. Unfortunately, the Dynaudio speakers in the C70 won't fit the doors of the S/V 70 series.

But, since the imaging w/center speaker and processor is from the front, like a live performance, having 1st class dash speakers probably gives me 80% of the presence of the C70 system.

I've had no problems with either the 3 CD changer or the 6 CD changer.

Good luck,
Bryan

Finding the amp and wiring is not easy.

My 1998 R had the 901, and I didn't like it. The CDs in the changer could only be swapped if I had a passenger or I was parked. No eject, insert and play. Plus, I always forgot which CD played first!
