My wife wants a compass for her 95 850 wagon...any ideas? The Ford Explorer we rented had a digital compass readout in the mirror....i would even consider retro-ing this to my car....Alan

Any car supply store should have them.

I found one at Murray's - a neat little one with "reversed" display so you can see what direction you are heading in.

A note though - you dash speakers and wiring affects it.

The rear view mirror is good but not in line of view - I found that my "old" 93 850 was without interferance when the compass was mounted on the stereo display (suction cup)

As a European new to Chicago - yes, navigating without compass is gambling - too many areas you don't want to end up in.... :)

All compasses need to be installed in a locaton free of magnets (speakers) or electrical wiring. When you think you've found a good location, before making it permanent be sure that it doesn't react by turning the key on. If it does, move it until you find a place where it's not effected.
