Opening door click (clunk) S70 1999

New to Brickboard. About to tackle the ABS removal/get repaired/reinstall journey. My GPS shows me how fast we're going within 1-2 mph while the ABS is out.

Only problem I have now is the gawd awful clicking noise when opening and closing the driver's door. It happens at the indexing notches. Is this a home repair or a body shop (weld) repair?

You need to closely watch the check strap when you move the door. If the weld is coming loose, you will have to have it repaired and a body shop is a good idea if you remove the door panel for them.
If the check strap is broken, it is a fairly easy DIY replace.

It is a DIY, and many of us have done it.

Have a look here:

Hope you can see the images. Right now, I am getting the evil red crosses in lieu of the images. Hope your browser is more kind to you.

A word of caution. You must remove the very heavy door, so ask one or two sturdy friends to assist, especially when placing the door back on the hinge pins. Precise location control is critical in order to prevent paint damage. I had one friend help, and I still scratched some paintwork.

Thanks for the website. I tried both Safari and Firefox and couldn't see the images but I get the idea. I'm thinking a nyloc nut with locktite. (And the customized wrench)

Thanks again.

If I recall, the procedure calls for two nuts and bolts, but access behind the plate is unfuriatingly difficult, so I opted for one nut/bolt/washer. The fix has worked perfectly for over a year; no snap, crackle, or pop can be heard. As Linda Richman (Mike Myers on SNL) might say, "It's like butta"
