The transmission on my C70 just went ugly, It acts like its in Winter mode high revs to about 2500rpm before slowly moving. The Arrow is flashing and the check engine light is on. The fault codes are P0768 and P700 and P700 P

Is the Trans bad or it it an electrical/Module issue

Any help is appreciated

sound like you have ended in 'limb home mode' to save the transmission for additional damages. generic trs tdcs say
P0700 Transmission Control System (MIL Request)
P0768 Shift Solenoid "D" Electrical
For old 850s the most common reason for limb mode is the worn out pnp switch,
solenoids fail much more seldom, but coud suffer from too little of use.
do you drive c70 just occasionally?
Got my 850-94 trs to work smoother when cold by exorcicing the components with DTC test mode3 built in the old models. also started to move ac distr selector through all positions additional to aut to keep components moving.

There are 4-5 external solenoids that tell the tranny when to shift. These are replaceable. I would suggest going to the dealer and giving him some hard earned cash. His scanner will pinpoint exactly which solenoid it is and if there is other damage.

Driving this way will soon destroy the torque converter. The flashing arrow means that you are in 3rd gear all of the time, limp home mode.

Let's hope that it is simple and not a tranny transplant.

Just remember, dealers do not 'repair', they only remove/replace parts. If they say you need a new/rebuilt tranny, tell them thank you and have them clear the code and visit your indie for a junk yard tranny.

Well I just got the bad news, after looking for bad wires that could possibly cause the problem ($460 = 3 hrs + diagnostic fee) They tell me that the Trany is Bad (Replacement Est is $4478 + tx) Already searching for a Used trany. I have owned a 740T and an 850T and never had trany issues. Is this a problem that is related to the 70 series? This car only had 68K

It is frustrating to me that you were charged for 3hrs of labor to do a diagnostic. "It's bad" is not an answer!

The codes you got point to Soleniod #4 (D) as being the suspect. These solenoids are external to the tranny, somewhat, and are replaceable. If #4 is not the problem, then why the code????

This sounds like a poor excuse for a Volvo dealer.

Frustrating is not the right word but since this is an open forum I will not use what I am thinking... Before I take the car elsewhere, I plan on having discussion with the service Advisor to get a better report on what Codes they found as well as what actual work was completed, including if they even checked the Solenoid. There is only one Volvo dealer in town and I have avoided them in the past and I guess I should have followed my instincts and avoided them again.

Sorry to steer you to that particular dealership. My experiance is with Borton Volvo, in the Twin Cities, where I have received prety good service overall. Of course they wanted to replace my leaking steering rack, but an indie suggested putting off the weeping seal and waiting for a more noticeable leak, it never leaked/weeped again for 5 years.

Call an indie, let him know what code you got and listen to his suggestions. Don't mention "bad tranny" words.
