front end clicking noise while turning 850 1994

Is this always a half-shaft issue or could it be cv joints?
Is there a way for me to check at home before I have a mech look at it?

Thanks. Don

Usually CV joints. You could check the boots to see if they are cracked, the lubricant should have sprayed all over if severe.

You can still drive this car for a while with broken boots until you can't stand the constant noise anymore. If it is the CV boots, just get new axles.

When you turn left, is the sound coming from the right? Vice versa?
If so, you might just be better off putting 2 new front axles in. I got it done on my V70 for only $200 for both sides.

The sound has come mostly from front right when turning right.
Now also starting to click fr left when turning left.

Just going to drive straight line from now on.
      :)

Jake: So this right/left is different from what you report.
Klaus: no sign of spraying on ground or wheels (yet). Man, I know I just need to find time to get under and look at the thing. This weekend.

Yep it's the CV/axles. Cheaper to replace the whole axle. Left one went on ours last year.
