Memory Seat Issue S80 2005

We're having a problem with the drivers seat. I can move it fore and aft using the regular adjustment switch. But pushing any of the three memory buttons won't move the seat or the seat back angle. The mirrors DO move however, so it appears there is no problem with the memory buttons themselves. And since the seat moves when commanded by the regular adjustment switch, I would conclude there is nothing wrong with the motor or mechanicals.

Is there a seperate fuse for moving the seat via the memory button? Or does anyone know of another cause for this malfunction?

One thing will cause the memory to dump is a weak battery. Our remote entry memory got flaky near the end of the original battery. A new battery fixed it.

That's an interesting thought. The car is about 5 years old (or close to it). It appears to have the original battery. I know the key fob unlock/seat position memory thingy seems to somethimes forget that I (6'-3") was the one that locked the door and when I unlock and open the door, the seat moves to the wife's (5'-0") position. So I have to reach down and hold button #2 on the seat to return it to my position. I'd also have to say that sometimes when you start the engine, the starter doesn't spin it quite strong as expected.

I could either A.) replace the battery proactively; or B.) just wait for "that call" on the coldest day of the year telling me the battery is dead. I think I'll opt for "B".

Thanks for the input.

jeez man I hope you're kidding. A brand new battery is less than $100 and many retailers give long term (7 years) warranty. It seems like a no brainer if you're having battery troubles in Nov that you'll get a new battery before the winter.

Yes, I'm kidding. But consider, my winter is like your summer (maybe).

I had the same problem with my 2001 S80. I purchased a PPC BSR reader and reset all the codes that were stored. One of the issues it fixed was my seat memory buttons. They now work again. definitely nothing wrong with your seat motors.

I looked at their web site. It says 1999-2006 S80 isn't covered.

However you say it works for you. I wonder what's up.

$1150 SEK = about $162 Yankee. Might be money well spent if I don't want the car to live at the repair shop.

PPC Diagnostic System works with all Volvo from 2001-2007.
Exceptions:
S80 1999-2006 works
S80 D/D5/TDI 1999-2000 does not work
C70 98-05 does not work
S/V40 96-04 does not work

The scanner will read ALL of your Volvo codes, including SRS.

This may sound a bit stupid but did you just try and reprogram the buttons. I had this problem on my 01 V70. Something happened and it dumped all the memory positions. The seat continued to work just fine. Finally, I went back in and tried to reprogram the memory positions and it worked just fine. Give it a shot.

You were right. I reprogrammed the button and all is well. Another example of "why try the simple solution if I can make something difficult out of it?"

Not stupid at all. I'm gonna try it.
