Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced starting problems with their S40? What I mean is that when I turn the key to start the engine it takes like a second or two before it goes. Usually I turn the key and the engines starts up right away, but sometimes it hesitates. I think that the spark plugs have misfired.

It’s probably happened 5 or 6 times since I bought my car, 8 months ago. I have a 2001 with 13500 miles right now, and I have not done the 7500-mile maintance. The dealer wanted $150 for it so I shut off the light myself, thanks to the posts on this board and I change my oil every 3000 miles.

There were no major modifications done to the car, except I installed an aftermarket CD Player, Alpine 7875 and a 200-Watt Subwoofer, Infinity Basslink. I don’t think the radio and subwoofer would have any affect on the car starting. You guys will probably asks so I will say it know, I have both of them off before I start my car.

If anyone else has had this problem, please let me know. I am hesitant to bring my car to the dealer because I have no time right now. I hope someone out there experienced this problem and has gone to the dealer.

Joe, just remember this....if you do not do(or have them done) the required services on your car(or have some proof it was done)the dealer can void your warranty. You can read this for yourself in your owners manual.

It dont sound like you have much of a problem....but do you want to take that chance?

Some where in past posts I read that the S40 plugs should be changes every 10K miles. Use regular NOT platinum etc etc ones. I think that the Champion copper plug is the one to use and just change them at 10K.
