High mileage 2001 V70-XC70 2001

There is a 2001 V70 with 196k for sale near me for $2700. Dealer serviced. Supposedly runs well. Haven't checked out the car yet.

I've read and heard the 2001's aren't a good year. Electrical problems and other issues.

What do you folks think? Can I expect to get many more reliable miles fom it? Or is it close to being done. Is this car worth looking at or should I run from it?

Normally, high mileage cars don't bother me if they have been aggressively maintained. But, 'dealer maintained' means that there has been little to no preventive maintenance done. You will want to read every scrap of maint paper that the owner/seller has, looking for tranny flushes, suspension fixes, timing belt(scheduled for 210K), Driver Information Module replacement, ETM replacement, and the list goes on.

It has been my experience, that when a vehicle hits the 200K mark, the residual value drops to scrap without lots of current replacement parts. Even with great maint, a price over $2K is hard to fetch.

RUN AWAY!!! The 2001 transmissions and electrical systems are junk. That's WHY it's going for such a low price. Look for a 2002 or newer if you like that new generation though.
