Any ideas on this? Started the car the other day. Apparently the winter mode switch got hit, because it felt like the transmission was slipping. The orange arrow started blinking and the check engine light came on.

Got out of winter mode, but check engine light stayed on. Used scanner to get coed. Check engine light reset to off, but came on again a very short time later. No apparent problems driving.

PNP switch? Did you 'row' the selector about 20 times?

OK, went out and tried it.

Now as I shift through the gears, the winter mode light comes on in both 2nd and Low.

Guess it's off to the shop.

      Thanks

Thanks for your patience and forebearance.. I guess I should do what I often recommend" Read the xxxxx manual!

I'll try to find some time to play with it tomorrow, and see if the check engine light will go off and stay off for a while.

FWIW I think the W button's amber LED is supposed to come on when the gearshift is in L or 3. Check your owner's manual.

How soon we forget. The yellow arrow is not the "winter" light, it is the "up shift" light! A reminder that you are not in Drive. It is supposed to come on when in 3 and L, as well as when you push the W button.

It is the blinking arrow that indicates a problem. Rowing the shifter usually distributes a little grease around the PNP switch and lets you drive for a while before getting crudded up again.

PNP replacement is not terribly difficult.
