Torque converter? S70 2000

The idle has been sort of erratic for a while but the engine never cut out. Recently the transmission shifting became erratic while in drive, kinda like it doesn't know what gear to be in.

This past weekend, about 10 minutes into street driving, the transmission seemed to be slipping in drive and after a minute or two the car wouldn't advance while in drive. When I pressed on the accelerator the engine only revved like it was in neutral, so I had it towed.

Well, the mechanic put it in drive and it lurched and moved forward. He took it for a test run and it started to slip on him too. Seems if the car sits for 30 minutes it will drive normally until it warms up.

Mechanic feels like it is mechanical, ie, torque converter. He didn;t think it was the pnp switch or fuel injection relay.

Any suggestions would help before the big out lay of cash for a trans/torque converter.

Your mechanic is correct, either the torque converter or the hydraulic pump to engage the torque converter is toast. The tranny fluid heats up quite rapidly and the heat probably doesn't help things internally.

A "rebuild" is more expensive than finding a low mileage tranny in a reputable salvage yard.

Thanks Klaus.

I just found a transmission/tc from a low mileage 2002na S60. Will it fit the 2000na S70?

For 2000, the NA had the 5 speed as optional. The 2002 is most likely a 5 speed and cannot be a good candidate to replace a 4 speed.
