The sunroof in my 98 S70 is leaking. Water is coming in through the seal that is attached to the glass. I am assuming you can replace the weatherstrip that is attached to the glass? I can't see anything on FCP Groton or Eeuroparts.

Anybody know where to get one, or how to resolve this? thanks.

or, can I reuse the existin seal and will it work as long as I have cleaned up the metal and reglue?

Your leak is between the galss and the metal frame that surrounds the glass. The "fix" is to remove the rusty metal frame around the glass, remove all of the rust, then primer and paint it black again. This is a multiday job, if the metal frame is any good.

I bought a replacement at Strandberg salvage yard, where I could pick from multiple SR's. I found one that had no rust and it workded for me.

MIJ, over on matthew's volvo site, took his apart, sanded and repainted, and then put on a new rubber weather strip using windshield glue. The factory glue was "green" for the environment, but only lasts about 5-7 years in the hot sun.

Ok, sounds like a plan. I can take it apart and clean it up and put it back on...any idea on where to get the rubber weather strip?

Dealer, but call DarilWaltripVolvo in Tennessee for the best prices. Let them know you are on the Brickboard for 10% more. Google search, but you need to call their 80 number.

Get a small amount of windshield rubber glue from an installer near you for the best seal.

The seal around the sunroof is not meant to keep weather and water out. The sunroof operates on a gutter and drain system. Water gets past that seal by design, collects in a gutter around the sunroof and drains through the body to the ground. The drains are most likely clogged. The drains are located at the front corners of the sunroof "pan" - meaning the sunroof should be open and there are two holes at each of the front corners. They may be somewhat obstructed from view by the wind deflector which pops up with the roof open. I clean the drains with bursts of compressed air. You can actually pour water into the gutter around the open sunroof and test if the drains are working. I think they travel through the A-pillars and deposit water down near the mudflap.

The rubber seal is not designed to be waterproof. Water is expected to enter the trough below the glass to be drained away.

The drain holes and/or the tubes than run down to the trunk or the discharge outlets below the L&R 1/4 panels are blocked--probably with pine needles, silt, etc.

Check the archives for location and procedure to clear.

Both lines are draining...I checked by pouring water down them. I know the seal between the body and sunroof is supposed to let some water through and drain. My issue is the seal between the glass and the seal. Water is getting past that and it has no place to go except inside the cabin.

If that is the problem I think that you have to get a new glass panel.

I believe that the metal frame around the glass under the rubber seal rusts and then water seeps past and it rusts even more.

People have tried silicone to seal the leaks, but that doesn't seem to be very effective.

You may also check the condition of a used glass panel at a pick-n-pull by lifting the rubber seal to see if the metal frame is intact.

I have 'fixed' this problem several times on my 854t5. The last time, I used a wood shim to lift the rubber seal so I could force the best (most expesive, longest warranty) silicone seal under the rubber. Spent more time in clean up than doing the actual caulking. So far, this had held for several years.

My IM also suggests windsheild adhesive, but this is not easy for DIYers to aquire.
