ETS Light on V70-XC70

1999 V70 with 138k. Been running fine with no issues until this morning.
Tried to start. Sounded like it was about to kick over and run and then completely dead...Engine turns over with starter, but no sign of life. ETS Light on. Plugged in a code scanner and get a "PASS" (no codes returned)??
Now what? Looks like car was delivered to first owner 02/99, so over 10 years I guess ( read something about warranty by Volvo otherwise)
Any suggestions?
Rolf

Well, after looking through a couple of manuals, alldata and Vadis, I decided to try to clean out the Mass Air Flow Sensor and even the throttle body and various associated electrical connectors before contacting Volvo ($$$$).
After putting everything back together, I once again tried starting.. Nothing...
Waited about an hour and tried again. This time it sputtered and sprang to life!! Initially idle was about 1500rpm and then settled around 900-1000. No ETS light, No codes. Like it never happened!! Car runs fine!!
Spoke to a friend/mechanic, who said most likely some gunk in the Mass Air Flow sensor got cleaned out...

Update: Took Mass Air Flow sensor off and cleaned with some special spray. Did same thing with throttle body and various electrical connectors. Sign of life, but still not starting... Fires occasionally. After several cranking attempts now have a code P1081 (emissions on my scanner), which after some searching on the internet, alldata and VADIS comes up with a "immobilizer" code from Volvo?. Not sure if this is the result of my start attempts or...? Tried service key as well with same results...????
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Your scanner needs an upgrade :)

If it is the immobilizer, there is a ring behind the keyed portion of the switch. If the ring is cracked, it is easily replaced.

Have you tried getting out of the car, locking/unlocking several times and then try to restart the engine?
