Headlining Coming Away V70-XC70 1998

Hi All,
I used a pressure can upholstery cleaner on the headlining. It cleaned the lining but the area above the driver's head has separated from its original attachment and is sagging. I guess the upholstery cleaner has acted as a solvent and dissolved the original glue.

Any ideas on repairing this? I'm hoping for some repair in place and hoping not to have to pull the headlining out. If I do have to remove the lining and reglue any suggestions on what to use? I would think that I'd need to apply any glue to the body first and let it set partly as any wet glue would be soaked up by the lining and look unsightly.

3M makes a fabric glue. You would have to pull down some of the headliner from around the sun roof to gain access.
I suspect the cleaner was a bit too strong?

I managed a pretty decent job on the headliner in my old 1986 760.

Here's the post I did about it:

I think the trick in making this look good is getting the pins in a good grid pattern.

Also I don't know if this will work on the headliner board in 850/S70/V70 cars....

Hello, Every attempt at "in situ" headliner regluing I've ever seen looks bad. An honest upholstery man near me said it can't be done. A friend sprayed some "77" adhesive through a small hole he cut through the sag. He then used a large pillow to apply pressure evenly as it dried. It lasted not 2 days. Maybe you could cut out an even rectangle around the sag, sand clean (the essential step), then glue-in a fresh piece of precisely cut materal. If only the interior trim pieces had screws instead of mystery-clip fasteners. Kira
