Thinking of buying a C70 ragtop C70 1999

Car is a black, tan top and interior 1999 C70, 98K. Looks decent - mostly gravel scratches down low. Top is in good shape, with maybe three small wear marks.

Interior is excellent, with expected wear on driver's seat.

Known issues. Passenger side window does not operate from either switch. Seems to be not operating the regulator at all. I'm guessing worst case is a new regulator, which prices at $500+/-.

Tires will need replacing.

Brakes seem a little spongy, but stop the car with no problem.

As far as the seller knows, t-belt has never been replaced, and I understand is that it should be at 105,000 miles.

Good carfax.

I can get it for $3,000.

Any comments, suggestions would be appreciated.

C70 ragtop - as I recall when the roof goes up or down.. C70 1999

The windows automatically went down a few cm, then went back up. I was impressed with the sequence of moves when I looked at a brand new car years ago. If the passenger window won't work, is the roof sealing or locking properly? It's a complicated mechanism.

The wiring on the ragtops is quite complicated, mostly being caught in the rain with the top down. That does a number on the switches for some silly reason :)

The timing belt, tensioner and roller need to be changed ASAP. The early tensioners have a tendancy to fail before the 105K mark.

    $3K doesn't sound that bad.

Thanks for the response - the TB, S belt roller and tensioner are right at top of the list.

I did watch the top go up and down several times - seems to be operating smoothly.

I'm going to buy it - picking it up tomorrow.

One thing though - when I looked under the hood, the engine seemed to be sitting sideways. What's up with that?
