Steering leaking; may need new rack... V70-XC70 1998

My 98 v70 AWD (121K miles) has started a new leak that appears to be coming from the steering rack. Any suggestions on how to proceed? Should I just keep adding fluid to the reservoir and allow the leak to continue? Is the rack something that can be repaired, or will I have to replace it? Is it a do it yourself type job for someone who can do things like brakes and other relatively basic repairs?

Steering leaking; may need new rack... V70-XC70 1998

Hi, try to find the leaking point, had this in 850-94 one year ago.
Mine was pinion upper gasket ie. where the wheel axel comes into rack.

New gasket 30€, new fluid 20€ from volvo dealer.
But quite a job to remove the rack, clean and replace gasket and re install.

This was TRW rack, dealer remanufactured 900€, spare part remanufactured 650€ as
swap options, where still the remove and reinstall work is due, so the one day job for cleaning and renewal of gasket saved me big money.

The steering rack is a very difficult task. Shop around for a good shop and get it done properly.

It is possible that you could have a minor part failure and wind up with a cheap fix. you need to find the leak before spending a grand.
