Hello Fellows,
I've got two squeaks I'm tracking down that I really need some help on.
The first is coming from the latches that hold the rear seat seat-backs up and locked in the wagons. The latch seems to be rubbing when the car twists (on bumps, etc) and makes a squeaky/chirpy noise. I have thus far managed to tame it by first coating the latch striker with black window/door silicone and then wrapping with black nylon tape (ie: electrical tape).
This seems to fix the noise, but I'm sure it won't last, esp when it starts to get cold here. Opening/closing that latch (ie: lowering the seatback) a few times will surely chew that all to bits. I'm really looking for a more permanent solution.
The second noise is almost identical both in terms of the character of the noise and the cause. It's coming from the latch on the tailgate. I'm sure it's exactly the same thing - the car flexes and the latch rubs on the striker and makes a squeak. It's terribly annoying.
I haven't pulled the striker out to do the tape wrapping method yet, mostly because I KNOW it won't last long in there and I'll be doing it again in a month.
Even slightly more permanent solutions to these problems would be greatly appreciated.
I have thought about using the paint/brush on plastic coating products (like this:http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip ) but I can't buy them here so I'd have to order it in.
Any thoughts?
