Transfer case scoop

I ran across part of a discussion in the archives about a cooling scoop for the AWD transfer case-I don't think my car has one, but I think maybe it should. Anyone have any details on what this critter looks like, etc.?

Re: Transfer case scoop

Depending of what M/Y you have, from M/Y 2000 they have cooling fins on the Bevelgear.

Re: Transfer case scoop V70-XC70 1998

There were some good photos that someone posted...I can't seem to find them now. It is basically an angled piece of metal that screws to the front half of the bottom of the box shaped damper of the AWD transfer case. My '98 XC did not come with one from the factory. It was only added by the dealer while the car was in for the dreaded bevel gear replacement. I don't think that there is a recall item that adds it either....Volvo doesn't want to actually admit that there is a problem with the design of their AWD system.
