S70 T5s...couple of questions S70

Thanks for the help on the suspension question I posted earlier. I guess I'll just have to have the dealerships run a VIN check to see what the vehicles I'm looking at were originally equipped with.

A few more questions...

'98 v. '99... Which one should I buy and why? '98s tend to be about $2000 less than '99s. I have yet to see a 2000 model, but I think it will be out of my range (I'm adding this vehicle to a Sport Ute in my garage and I don't want to spend that much).

Anything in particular to look for? Any troublespots? What's the highest mileage that you would purchase? I've seen one with 54k in mint condition at a great price. Too high mileage?

Where can I find the original options that were available in '98 and '99? I have a '98 brochure, but it does not seem to cover all of the options. Doesn't have the Dolby Pro Logic sound system or the aluminum interior trim anywhere in the book.

Thanks in advance!

Andrew

Re: S70 T5s...couple of questions S70

99s have drive by wire electronic throttle, variable valve

timing (I think) and side air bags that also protect the head.

The 98s can be chipped (since they don't have electronic throttles)

easier then the 99s -- in case you want more power.

I don't recall an aluminum trim option in 98.

Options were, just from memory, leather, automatic transmission,

cold weather package, wood trim (about $500). There may have been

a radio package, too. Note I purchased my 98 T5 in April of 97

so more options may have been added at a later date. Maybe

tou have an early brochure.

Re: S70 T5s...couple of questions S70

Variable Valve Timing? you mean a car company implemented a feature like this WITHOUT feeling the need to plaster "VVT", "VVT-i" or the like all over the body of the car? amazing!

;) I think you all know what I'm talking about.

Usually pummelled home as "VTEC."

VTEC is what was going through my head at the time, I guess the actual acronym struggled to the tips of my fingers faster, at least you all knew what I meant :)

Re: S70 T5s...couple of questions S70

In 97 they snuck the low pressure turbo into the GLTs and

pretty much forgot to mention it to anyone. No badging,

no strong promotions, but what a difference.

Re: S70 T5s...couple of questions S70 1998

I think the aluminum trim was only available on the V70 R. I may be wrong though.
