I'm confused with the oil capacity of the T-6 engine (7.3 quarts) in the manual and the amount of oil that can be added on an oil change (6.8-7.0). My dealer insists that 7.3 is what is required, but that sends the oil level over the max mark by a bit (1/4 inch). The dealer that my mother uses on her 2001 T-6 states that they put in 6.5 and that gets it to the mark. Who is right? Both are with the filter insert changed.

Will the slight amount of overfill on my car be injurious? I calculate that the min/max difference is 1.6 quarts over 3/4 inches. That would seem to imply that I have .5 quarts over in the system in my car.

I agree with Rich. 7qts or a tad over brings it to the full mark. For some odd reason, Volvos owners manuals are never exactly correct on this. The correct amount on any engine is whatever it takes to be exactly at the full mark on the dipstick as that's what any car owner looks at whenever checking oil level, despite what their owners manual says. You will never have problems if you use the dipstick as a level guage.

when I change the oil I use 7 quarts and it's right at the top of the mark.
