Closing sunroof properly S40-V40 2002

Can someone tell me the proper position for a sunroof, I just bought the car and went to car wash, and felt some water. When closed the glass looks even with the roof, but if I press button again, it sounds locked when the glass is below the roof, what is the proper position?

At least you found out in the car wash! We got a 2001 S40 this summer - in CA where it doesn't rain for months. I noticed the sunroof stops a bit too far down and I adjusted it by hitting the button until it is flush with the roof. At some point, my husband drive the car and opened the sunroof, did not return it to the correct position. Last week, we had a torrential rainstorm - about 4" of rain in 1 day. We didn't drive his car that day. Next day, driver's side was flooded! But I had washed the car many times with the sunroof closed properly and knew it was OK. So make sure it is flush with the roof!

BTW we took the car to self- vacuum and got out all the water we could, then left all the doors open for hours, drove it around with the heater on the floor full blast and it dried fine - no smell. I also got some of that silica kitty litter (the crystals type) and put that on the carpet for a while and vacuumed it off, not sure if it helped.

I had the exact same issue. I had the sunroof adjusted at the dealer and that fixed it. I have no idea what or where the adjustment is though... The sunroof now closes so that the glass is level with the roof. No leaks so far.

In the "new" style cars, the closed sunroof is supposed to be flush with the roof. A sunroof is not water proof, which is why there are 2 drains in the front and 2 in the rear. Check the drains and make sure the front ones are not blocked with leaves, ets. I used to take a measuring cup of water and pour it down each forward hole and then look under the car for lots of water.

The 850 cars had problems with water sometimes going between the glass and the metal frame that holds the glass. This is difficult to fix because of the small amount of space involved and the metal frame would rust.
