Tapping on a S70 T5 S70 1997

Chaps,

I have a strange problems that seems to be worse since the cold weather has kicked in here in the UK.

On acceleration on my S70 T5 there is a loud tapping from the upper part of the engine.

Once I stay at a steady speed the noise stops.

I'm runing 5w40 full senthetic oil (GTX).

Can anyone help me as this noise is really annoying...

Gareth

I suppose low oil pressure could cause valve tapping. You

could try a 10w30 oil (you don't need or want 40 weight oil

    in your T5s engine).

Re: Read somewhere that the Volvo 5 cyl engine was designed by Porsche 850 1994

According to my training manuals, Porsche was consulted on the engine layout (and that was on the 6-cyl. block which came before the 5-cyl. variant). Volvo manufactured that engine 100%.

Re: Read somewhere ....Porsche...... 850 1994

      Yannis,

      things to know

-The five came out before the six and was harder to tune, balancing timing varitions with engine speed, uneven no# of cylinders etc..yadda yadda. In North America we got the Six first and then the five.

-Porsche worked on improving the cooling flow in the cylinder heads and cumbustion chamber/valve train layout.

-Volvo perfected the process of casting iron sleeves into an aluminium block very tricky stuff.

        Really?

How come 1992 960s had this 6-cyl. engine BEFORE the 850s hit the European market? If you ask a Volvo engineer, they will tell you that the inline 6 had been in the works MANY MANY years before 1992 in order to find a replacement engine for the ill-fated partnership that Volvo had going in the mid and late '80s with that awful V6 engine from Renault.

That engine cost Volvo, globally, MILLIONS in unnecessary repairs, especially after warranties expired.
