Hi all,
My local tire dealer had a great deal on that size, including 30 day trial period.
It doesn't come in 195 60R 15.
Questions:
1. The stock tire for the S70 AWD is that size. Does it use different fender liners?
2. Is the wheel sensor for the AWD geared differently to compensate for the 3% speedo error.
3. Could worn suspension parts be causing the problem?
Thanks,
Bryan

Check Tire Rack before concluding that a tire is not available in a certain size. I spent 20 years selling a/v at retail, there was a sign in the stockroom, "State of the Art is what's in Stock".
I had to replace my springs at 120k to fix rubbing, you should see about 2" of clearance between the fender opening and the top of the wheel, I had about 1/2" before the springs were changed.
Good luck.

You're right.
The 195 60R 15 is on back order from Goodyear.
I didn't have any problem with the stock size.
Right now the clearance is about 1.5 inches.
The tires don't contact the liner over bumps, only rub slightly at full lock.
I'll double check the clearance when the 195 60R 15's are installed.
Thanks
Bryan

FWIW, I would buy Michelin or Bridgestone, I won't buy Goodyear, had a couple of real bad experiences.

Hi Norm,
To late I'm afraid.
They acknowledged that the wrong aspect ratio was a misreading of the specs for S70 FWD vs. AWD. My remedy was a no charge replacement with the correct size. Actually, the cost was $15.US less per tire due to the size differential.
It rides smoother and has substantially better handling than the Cooper touring tires I had.
The reviews are good and, I hope, the tire will last for the long haul.
I need new springs, struts, spring seats and bearings and inner and outer left tie-rod ends. The car has 100K+ miles on it.
Right now I'm running Bilstein HD on the rear which I would like to keep.
Which is better for the front--Bilstein HD mono-tube, KYB or Koni?
Thanks for your help.
Bryan

I doubt that you "need" new springs. Because you have bilstein HD on the rear, I suggest you use the HD struts for better balance.
When you get strut spring seats, get a set made for the XC90. They will last longer.
The previous owner must have done some Autocross with it for the suspension to take such a beating with so few miles.

Hi Klaus,
I was thinking that springs at such low mileage might be a repair for the shop's bank account.
What is your opinion about replacing the strut bearings if they are still OK?
I'll scope out prices on the Bilstein HD's for the front and will definitely go for the XC-90 spring seats.
No autocross, just Michigan's 3rd world roads.
Thanks again,
Bryan

The strut bearings are cheap and should be replaced if the strut is also replaced. But not the springs... Try to use OEM parts for the little things.

Hi Klaus,
I've asked my mechanic to get OEM bearings, seats, nuts & bolts, etc.
After all, the original equipment lasted over 100K miles.
Thanks,
Bryan

Hi Klaus,
Well, the Bilsteins are on as well as XC90 spring seats and OEM mounts & bolts.
Combined with the Goodyear ResponsEdge tires, the ride is not harsher than before. But, I had the left shock leaking so the ride was probably less than ideal to begin with.
I do notice a dramatic increase in the flat cornering ability. I believe that part of this difference is the carbon fiber sidewall construction that reduces flex and roll. Also, the impact harshness of Michigan's obstacle courses (public roads) seems reduced.
I understand that it takes a few hundred miles for the struts and tires to "break-in", so I'll see how the ride and handling change over time.
Thanks,
Bryan

I don't know what kind of a car you are refering. The AWD cars have a much larger turning circle than the FWD cars. Look in your gas cap lid for the proper tire size.
The 65 aspect ratio sounds a bit high.

Hi Klaus,
It seems like the tech either misread the specs--my S70 GLT is 195 60R 15 vs. 195 65R 15 for AWD or he is trying to fob off a set of tires.
What would you recommend as a decent H rated replacement touring tire?
Thanks,
Bryan

Those tires are too tall. Check this site for size:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Compare the 195/60 to the 195 65.
Take a good look at tirerack.com for price and handling characteristics that suit your driving needs.

Hi Klaus,
I'll stop by the shop on Monday.
Looks like a choice between the Michelin, Goodyear and Bridgestone brands.
Seems strange that the ResponseEdge doesn't come in 190 60R 15.
Thanks again,
Bryan
