spedometer and odometer dead 400 1983

I feel as though the car is moving but the spedo and odo say otherwise. they stopped about 30k km ago and now i need them back to get the it safetied. any tips ouside of replacing the whole unit?
i didnt see anything in other forums/maintainance but if the answers are already on here id appreciate a link.
its an 83 gl wagon
