Looking at a 2006 XC70 V70-XC70 2006

Fellow Bricksters,

Looking at purchasing a 2006 build date (06/06) XC70 SE 40,000 miles on the clock. I am coming from a 2000 (P2) V70 which has been a good car but needs a new auto gearbox and other issues which is making the car uneconomical to fix. I put it down to being the first model of the new shape.

Totally new to the XC range of Volvo's. Question is what should I be looking for re potential problems in the vehicle. Any known drama's that are common. I have heard issues on bevel gears etc, however this car has a decent service history and the price is more than reasonable. Also how is the transmission in this vehicle, if it is the same as our 2000 V70 than I am going to give it a miss.

I would prefer to own another later model V70 but however where I live in Australia they all seem to be addicted to AWD (I do not know why as it snows in only a tiny part of this country!!!) and thus it is next to impossible to find a late model second hand V70 anywhere. XC70 seems to be the next best choice.

Any help appreciated

I should also add that it is a 2.5L 5 cyl turbo.

I have the old hand-me-down 2005 XC-70 that we bought new and currently has 41,000 miles on the clock. Never had a problem with it, about ready for new tires, never had pads, but I guess I should check them soon.

Bought an iPhone interface for the HU-650 radio from imiv.ca and get my tunes through the existing radio, very nice.

I like the 2.5T engine much better than the six in my wife's 2008 XC70, guess I'm just used to it. But that 2008 handles beautifully, very nice car on the road, a step up in handling from the 05; but the 05 handles pretty well by my standards.

      Jim
