Engine Check Light V70-XC70 1998

I got the dreaded check engine light. Stopped at Autozone where they cheerfully read the code as something like 'large evap leak'. Upon checking it appeared that the better half did not seat the gas cap properly. Autozone then told me that the light would reset automatically. How long should that take?

If it was the gas cap that caused the CEL to go on, a couple of start/stop cycles and it should turn itself off.

I don't like Autozones policy of not reseting the codes. Some of the other autoparts stores that let you use the scanner without someone present from the store lets you reset it.

Engine Check Light - visit your friends at the Volvo shop? V70-XC70 1998

This happened to my wife's '99 V70 many years ago. The guys at the Volvo dealer cheerfully reset the light for her.

I bought a cheap ($60) OBDII reader and use it frequently to reset my recurring P0410 (air pump) code when it throws. Worth every penny...

I had my wife stop in again to the Autozone
to have then read the code again.
This time they volunteered to reset the code.

No I just need to wait to see if it errs again.
        Thanks to all who replied.
