Now this is weird: instrument cluster V70-XC70 2003

Hi All,
Recently I posted re: my wife`s 03 XC70 & the instrument cluster failure. A few suggested the prob is the DIM & big $ @ dealer.
Today I drove into town(usually drive my truck) with wife`s XC. No gauges when I started the car but after a few miles the temp& gas gauge appeared; no speedo/tach but SRS urgent warning message. On the way home all gauges appeared & working as per normal but suddenly when I accelerated the speedo went "nuts" & jumped to 180K(CDN). Then just as suddenly, when I turned a corner everything on the instrument cluster went blank.
Surely, someone else has experienced this issue as this XC70 can`t be an isolated case.
Thanks,
Rich

What is this fix? I have a problem with my instrument cluster going out when the tem goes up on my 2004 XC70. The car hic-ups once or several times, and then the panel goes black. Car drives fine, but no stop & signal lights, windows don't work. If I pull over and let it cool off for 1/2 hour, everything is back to normal except airbag warning message. Last summer Volvo repair upgraded the computer for $75 and otherwise shrugged. It's happened 3 times since and I never know when. Someone suggested the alternator might be involved. I need help!!!!

    TL,

Was the instrument cluster recently removed?

That sounds exactly like the problem I had after I removed and reinstalled the cluster from my S70.

I didn't push the connector in completely. Once it was secured the problem was solved.

    That's where I'd look first.

I would go blank too, if I were pushed into a turn at 180K!!! Have you tried pounding on the dash when it is blank, just in case it is a loose wire?

Replacing the DIM is quite costly and there is probably a fried circuit board somewhere with a loose connection or diode. But dealers don't repair things, they just know how to R&R with new stuff.

It is like my wife's info center in her Audi, it goes blank when the temp goes above 75F. No DIY fix, and replacement is over $700.
