2000 s80 brake lights

my brake lights , all of them, donot work. i replaced the brake bulbs in the tails, and they worked for a few uses, but then stoppe dworking again. i inspected the newly installed bulbs, and they dont look burnt...yet they dont work. is this somehow related to my non-working low beams?

i hate this car, and will definitely be my last fwd volvo.

Are your instrument lights brighter than usual? I am thinking that your voltage regulator may not be woring and you are overcharging the entire electrical system.

With the new cars having so much electronic equipment, I hate having an idiot light for the alternator. A volt meter would really be useful.

First you need to check the voltage at the battery, what the alternator is outputting. It should not exceed 14.7 volts. If it is 15V or more, the alternator will slowly cook all of your wiring.

I do not know where the voltage regulator is on the S80, but it should be on the backend of the alternator. Not a cheap part and best checked at an Autozone or Pepboys.
