Hello all. I haven't posted in a while.
My wife's 2001 V70 wagon (108k mi.) is throwing p0442 regularly :( I have read many posts here about the P0442 code. Seems like I should be able to fix that if I had the Evaporative circuit diagram to refer to in my troubleshooting. Does one exist that is available?

I have never seen a diagram, unfortunately. The system changes every year, to keep the junior mechanical engineers busy :)

The area most prone to leaking is a plastic 90 degree elbow near the fuel pressure regulator. Look for it in the rear passenger wheel well of all places. A poster on Volvospeed found it there on his V70, nicely cracked.

Thanks for the info. I looked this afternoon when wifey got home. Look at the image and something doesn't look right. The black (plastic) cylinder shape has what appears to be an open nipple. I did not find a loose hose that belonged to that nipple. The cylinder is about 1" dia and 3"long. The nipple would fit a hose of about 3/8" ~10mm Dia. What am I looking at? Is this my p0442(Leak -small?) The image was taken from just rear of the passenger side rear tire, just below the gas filler, Looking up.

Goooday....

The black cylinder gizmo is the vent for the fumes from
the tank to vent out while filling the tank. I have the exact
sceneiro and tried blocking it, and as a result I had problems
filling up.... kept shutting off the petrol pump...

P0442 has been bugging me for ages... J tube near the tank (Charcoal canster)
looks fine all tubes and hoses look good... I even put silecone around
the connectors etc...

Greg, you just posted to a 2 year old post. There is a bug in the software allowing you to do this.

However, I fixed my P0442 on my 1998 AWD. There is a hose that comes from the top of the tank, my car has saddle tanks, past the fuel filter and connects to a rollover valve. The connector for the valve and the line coming from the tank is about 4 inches long, mine had a nice 3 inch crack. Replaced it with a piece of 1/4 fuel line and no problems since.

Oh Oooh!

Anyway thakns for ur suggestion..What is meant by "Saddle Tank" and
is the roll-over valve anywhere near the Carbon filter../

This problem is bugging me to no end and both my 98 model
has this dilema.. It is such a teas as I am sure its sumthing
simple...been under the car soooo many times.. I think I have
it.. than blaaa... it hit me again. Had thoughts of shorting
the pressure sensor?

Where in the roll-over sensor/switch...

The AWD cars have 2 gas tanks, on either side of the propshaft, the FWD cars have just a single tank. I believe your carbon filter is in the rear of the car, close to the tank and the fuel filter. Newer cars do not have a fuel filter?

Everything you want to look at is either behind the tank or on the right hand side.

Very interesting! Usually the plastic piece with the 2 90 degree bends is what cracks. I haven't the foggiest idea what that cylinder is. I am goint to take a look at Volvospeed, they usually have more pics. You might want to post that pic over there and find out what it is.

Hello, June 1st, 2011 (Ha-Ha) I had the P0442 leak in my '02 non-turbo and lots of nice people on this board helped me. I had the split "J" hose. The black cylindrical thing with the barbed fitting is called a filter. I found a diagram during my search and I've tried to find it now. No luck and my eyes are on fire. Try online parts places. I softened the end of a piece of garden hose and pushed it onto said barb and blew into it. I could hear EXACTLY where my leak was. Try it. You might get lucky. Kira
