Rack boot job V70-XC70 1998

Ok I'm stumped. Trying to get the adjustment locking nut of the inner tie rod end to get at replacing steering boot. I locked the outer tie rod and against the nut from the other side and still unable to budge it. Heat, cold, cusin a blue streak, I am open to suggestions.

It has had periodic penetrating fluid application over the past several hours. Looks like it will pickle over night as well.

Thanks all.

Klaus thanks!! I got the nut loose with heat and back and forth and penetrating fluid.

So the keeper that goes around the inner end of the boot looks to require some kind of crimp tool. Do I need to use that clamp or could I use an industrial strength zip tie.

My new rack boots from FCP came with zip ties to hold them.

Be sure to clean everything up good with a wire brush, and use your anti-seize compound on everything when putting it back together.

I painted mine up with a quick shot of flat black once it was all back together as well to try to keep that stuff from rusting up so bad. I don't know if this is recommended or not.

Also make sure you go get an alignment once it's all back in place.

Keep soaking. If the threads look dirty, use a wire brush to clean off all of the gunk.
