engine stabilizer mount replacement S70 1998

Anybody have any good tricks for pressing the existing mount bushing out and putting a new one in? Do you need to remove the bracket to do this, or is there an easy way to do it while the bracket is still attached to the engine? I have an OE replacement bushing. I'm talking about the much discussed stabilizing mount/bushing located above the engine towards the firewall.

thanks in advance,

db

Re: engine stabilizer mount replacement S70 1998

Did this job recently on a 95 850

Used a saber saw or a hacksaw to cut the plastic outer shell of the bushing from the inside and it slides right out. To press it in, used two pipe flanges and washers and a long bolt and nut. The flange is normally used to bolt the end of a pipe to a wall or floor and gives you clearance for the end of the bushing. Bolt must pass thru the center hole (bring the old one to the hardware), and several flat washers as reqd. It was not possible to get the new mount completely centered, but within 1/8 inch is close enough. Forget chisels and large hammers.

The early version of these mounts must be pressed in with a special ram. Go to a dealer around lunchtime and have them press it in, they'll do it if you bring a pizza.

Some require replacing the entire stabilizer (which is a much easier replacement, but slightly more expensive). I think those started at 1999 though. But better double check.

I've heard of two ways of removing the old one. One involves cutting it off with a hack saw, the other suggests using a chisel and hammer to punch it out.

Install of oe basically has only one way to install it. Press it in either using a press or vice, with the proper fittings, or atleast some pieces of metal or wood to spread the load acoordingly.
