No Fuel Filter in 2004 NA V70? V70-XC70

I called the volvo dealer to order parts and they told me this car does not have a replaceable fuel filter element. That it had a permanent filter in the fuel tank that does not need to be changed. Since when?

Okay...so I am replying to my own message. I was not aware that volvos came with steel or plastic fuel tanks. The steel fuel tank volvo's do not have an external fuel filter. Only the one in the tank with the pump.

Amazing, I learn something every day.

I could have sworn the fuel filter was above the right rear "axle", at least with AWD cars. The same place as the fuel pressure regulator.

That is where the filter is on the plastic tank cars.

I could not believe this myself....I thought every car had a fuel filter.

I asked a family member who works for an experienced international OEM for the domestic car manufacturers, and he said they are phasing fuel filters....that clogged fuel filters are so non-existent they were deemed un-necessary.

The filter in the tank for steel-tanked cars is rated for the life of the vehicle, that and the tanks have sufficient capacity and a pre-filter on the in-tank pump.

I would rather have a filter.....
