S40 key dealer only for $160??! S40-V40 2001

OUr new S40 only came with one key (what DO people do with their second key??) and the dealer says it has a "chip" in it and will cost $160 to get a copy of just the key - no remote! Is there no other way to get just the ignition key?

    It is sad because everyone makes this mistake. They buy a car with just one key, assuming that a duplicate can be easily cut and then are shocked out of their boots when the dealer says $150-250 for one key.

    Cutting a key is easy, but the car must be reprogrammed to accept the new key. And therein lies the cost.

      Yes. Well with the S70 it only cost $25 so I was expecting the same. Well we would have bought the car anyway - it is too nice!
