To Arno....tire comment S40-V40 '00

Arno, On the advice of several tire outfits and an "OK" from a Volvo rep, I am running 4 185/65/15 snows, with no snow packed clearance problems or cornering problems! I am running Artic Alpin, while good on ice they seem to lack the grip of a more aggressive snow tread.....just my opinion, thanks, Bill

Dug up the manuals of my cars. For the 1998 model Volvo recommends 185/65R14 (yes, R14) winter tires+wheels. On the 2000 the recommendation is 195/55R15.

Bye, Arno.

...it is interesting that either way, Volvo has you set up 1/2 inch or so lower to the ground...in the snow????? Making some progress with my pics, hope to have them online soon, Bill

185/65R15 has the advantage that it is narrower, so clearance is less of a problem. How much space is there between the top of the front tire and the front strut/spring-dish?

Although if you need to use snow-chains I'd still find this one a little too tall for comfort.

I have to look it up, but for the Phase-I cars I think Volvo reccommended

185/60R15 snow/winter tires here in Europe. Don't have much on the Phase-II models.

Bye, Arno.
