I am wanting to buy a s70 or an 850 with the BIG turbo.
I see plenty of them advertised but not as to which turbo they have.
If they have the 5 spoke wheels does this mean a T5 turbo?
I am also seeing cars advertised with the 2.3 engine but no mention of a turbo. If its a 2.3 engine does this mean it has the T5 turbo??

    The early model 2.3 turbo engines were all high pressure turbos. When volvo came out with the low pressure turbos, it was mostly for the 2.4L engines.

    The T5 will have a badge on the rear that says T5. T5's only come in FWD.

      Found a 99 as70 AWD turbo sedan with a bad trans for $850.00.
      Is it a good idea to stay away from the early AWD volvo,s??

        The early 5 speed auto trannies had problems. It is not just a matter of replacing the tranny with one from a newer wreck, the software also needs to replaced (Dealer).
        The AWD is not the best in the world, and the engine is a low pressure turbo pushing about 200bhp.

      I have found a 96 850 R. in an ad Should there body badges or such?
      how do I tell if it really is an R ? Thanks

        There is only 1 R badge and it should be below the 850 on the trunk lid. There are a few notable R exclusive items. The front spoiler is lower than normal and protrudes slightly with fog lights. The leather seats are 1/2 and 1/2. The two numbers behind the LS or LW in the VIN need to be either 52 or 58.

        If you drive it, the boost comes on at about 3500rpm and the sport suspension is hard as a rock without any lean in the corners.

          Well It has LS57 #'s Oh well.... still a very nice looking car
          Would any of the other vin #'s possibly tell me of sport options??

            There is a product plate on the fender next to the battery that lists some factory options, like sport springs and shocks. Nothing besides the engine type in the VIN.
            No person in his right mind would ever remove the R or T5 badge from the rear of the car. If anything, they would add one.
