back up light switch location 850

My backup lights have never worked on our 94 850 wagon with an auto trans. Bulbs work, fuse seems fine, so now I suspect the switch. However, I'm not sure where it is located. Took the console apart around the shift lever and don't think I saw it there. I see a couple of impossible to get to two wire devices deep down in the trans area, and am hoping none of those is the switch... Or is there something more logical to suspect than the switch that I have overlooked?

Thanks very much for assistance! This bulletin board is great!

When the back up lights don't work on an auto tranny, look at the PNP switch for the cause. It could just be mis-aligned a little bit. There is no separate switch as on the manual tranny.

sometimes it helps to see the part your looking for ......if you copy and pasted the above link you will see what a new backup light switch looks like. 21.00. I bet if you took the shroud off around the shifter and put it in reverse, the switch would majically appear. I would also replace the little light that illuminates the gear selector and cigarette lighter backlight while i had everything apart.......
