$800 shipped (17 inch comets with Michelin Pilots)

I have the opportunity to purchase a set of 17 inch volvo comet wheels with michelin pilots. The wheels and tires have very little miles on them. Is this a good deal?

Thanks

that sounds like a great deal, what is wrong with the wheels & tires though? something has to be - the comets sell for $200 plus, and pilot sports are a high 100 dollar tire (about 175 on tirerack)

Sounds pretty good to me. There was a set that sold on ebay w/tires for about $750, so $800 with good tires is within reason.

I have to differ with the other poster - buying used tyres sight unseen and owner unseen is a very dangerous business.

They could have been hard kerbed, punctured and bodge repaired or cut and you'd only find out when one failed.

I would imagine that you're running a T5 or similar with those tyre needs, this is a car that needs proper rubber - Pilots are (I hope, since I've just bought a set) good tyres, but you need to know where they've been before you trust your life to them.

There's a fool on the UK owner's club website who seems to be about to fit incorrect wheels onto his T5 - the thread is full of people telling him he's risking his and other's lives, but to no avail so far.

Don't follow his example, please.

I based my opinion on the info given. Of course if the tires are trashed and the wheels are damaged, then it's not a good deal. There's always going to be some degree of risk involved in buying used parts. He did say they "...have very little miles on them.", so I would expect the condtion to be excellent.

The wheels on my car were purchased from a seller on ebay, sight unseen, and I got what was described. The tires that are currently wrapped around those wheels were purchased used with about 5,000 miles on them, and they were also as I expected them to be. Very nice. I put together a wheel and tire package for about $400 that most people would have paid over $600 for.

I would always be careful with buying used wheels or tires by asking lots of questions, asking for pictures, and asking for details like tread depth and wheel condition, etc.
