I regularly back my '84 240 down boat ramps so the back end of the car is in 10-12" deep water (with the tailpipe "gurgling" bubbles in ~2 inches deep under the water). And I regularly crossed flooded roads (8 to 10 inches) in my old '80 245 (these sat higher than the '83-on 240's, though) without problems.
Be sure to go slowly (you don't want a wake or wave to rise higher), while considering the tailpipe's height when going up the far side (the tail of the car will dip). Choose a shifter position to keep the car in 1st gear -- you want to have a suitable compromise of going slow yet also keeping the engine's rev's up to increase gas outflow through the tailpipe, to keep water from coming in and possibly blocking exhaust gases that might result in stalling the engine.
And under no circumstances should you park the car in the flooded parts of the driveway -- the cooling off engine can actually suck water into the tailpipe (if it's submerged).
You didn't say anything about the distance you have to travel in this 8-inch deep water. A mere driveway shouldn't be a problem at all, unless it's in Beverly Hills with mile-long driveways :-).
