Air bags 850 1995

When I got hit head-on by a sideways sliding F-150, my air bags did not deploy. I'm grateful, because they weren't needed, I might have been hurt by the bags themselves, and it would have been highly annoying.

Was the SRS possibly defective, or did they not deploy because I was already stopped?

This kind of thing has been reported ad nauseum to NHTSA.

They didn't deploy because the impact was not sufficient to deploy them. It has nothing to do with whether you are stopped. It has nothing to do with body damage or repair expense. It has nothing to do with anything but a combination of the force and the direction of the impact. One can have side airbags deployed in a frontal collision and vice versa. Conversely, one can find cars with total loss "all over" damage, having no airbags deployed at all.

Air bag deployment is caused by the severity of the crash, I don't think it has anything to do with the speed of your car. If the F150 missed your bumper, that would explain a lot.

You can always check the DTC boxes and see if there are any codes set. B-5.
