New tires.....Any recommendations? 850 1995

Just completed my state inspection and it looks like I will need another set of tires for my 850 GLT. Last set were Kumho Ecsta's, which I thought were a fairly good tire except they seem to wear out quickly. I only got about 33,000 miles on these but my lack of tire rotation as I should probably did not help.
Does anyone have a recommendation for me for a tire under say $60?

Thanks!

Considering what you pay for Khumos, 33k is not bad at all. I've been quite happy with Kuhmos, have the Esctas on my 740t and got the Touring Platinums for my 850 a few months ago. Tread life on the Platinums is considerably more than the Ecstas and they may still be offering buy 4 and get a $50 rebate.

If you have two with decent tread, that are in decent shape, you could always put those on the back and the new ones up front since the wear on the front is much faster than wear on the rears.

Hi Mr. Detail,
I have been running these on my '87 745t for about a 1 1/2 years. Haven't put a tremendous amount of miles on them but I love the handling in wet, dry and even some minimal snow. Don't really show any wear but like I said haven't really been piling on the mileage. When I bought them they were about $45/ea. I would buy them again.

I had these: eBay item # 360142371091 there's a good picture of the tread
They might wear a little quick especially if alignment is off & hard driving, but they're pretty good.
Do you have 15" or 16" wheels?

LilHelpHere,
I am running the standard 15" aluminum wheels that came on the car. Tire size is 195/60R15.

Well there you go:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-NEW-195-60-15-Falken-Ziex-ZE-512-Tire-60R15-R15-60R_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a1Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem360148575697QQitemZ360148575697QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

At your price point with free shipping. Of course check the seller rating return policy and fitment. Also, they seem to like about 38lbs of air. I like the looks of them and the ridge that helps protect your rims. I paid $93 each from Sears in 7/05 (two now in the rear & fronts were replaced from eBay in 11/07) Hope that helps & good luck

There are only two important components on your car: brakes and tires. $60?? Remind me not to ride with you :)

Go to Tirerack.com and take a good look. Keep the wear rating in mind and also make sure that there is plenty of wet traction. Write down the prices and then go to your local discount tire installer and ask if they can match/beat the price.

Klaus, I know you respond a lot here on this board and many of us greatly appreciate your comments but even though I noticed your smiley at the end of the sentence, "Remind me not to ride with you" some of us out here are on a very tight budget and we do our best to keep our Volvo's in top running condition. We are in a DEEP recession right now. Thanks much for your reeponse.

Reminds me of when I was in college and really broke. I bought 4 new bias ply tires for about $7 each. They lasted less than 10K miles and were really bad in the rain, but they were better than the US Baldeagles that were on the car.
That was the same year I had to have the crank bearings replaced, it cost me $60 at the dealer. A lot of money back then.

If it is just the front tires that are worn, you could replace them with same brand, style that is on the rear?
