Headlight bulbs V70-XC70 1987

What brand of headlight bulbs do the experts recommend - our '96 V70 headlights are very poor - you have a job even seeing that they are on in anything other than total darkness! Compared to my Subaru they seem nonexistant!!

Headlight bulbs - lots of previous complaints V70-XC70 1987

Search for previous threads on headlights. Many people complained about the headlights on the USA models of the 1998-2001 V70 and S70. The reflectors and lenses were the poor DOT-specified design, and with age, they just got worse as the reflectors darkened and the plastic lenses pitted. You probably only have 2 choices:
    1. Do what you can to clean your existing ones and install slightly better bulbs
    2. Replace. The best are the genuine Hella European units, the ones on European-sold models.

I agree, but they are a little expensive to buy and ship to the USA. The same holds true for the 850 models.

Headlight - all Volvo light units are mega-expensive V70-XC70 1987

You are right, the cost is really steep. All those Volvo light units cost a fortune, even the tail lights. It drives owners to buy the cheesy Asian knockoff parts. And you often see used Volvos for sale with cracked lights; the used car stealers sure won't foot the bill for a repair.

Because headlights are so expensive, I put XPel film on them to protect from flying gravel. So far, my longest XPel experiment is the film on my 2002 BMW's headlights, and it is still clear and intact. Great product.

I am not sure what year your car is :) Before replacing bulbs, check the reflector. If it appears dusty or dull, consider buying replacement cannisters from a 00 C70. That model has a clear lense and a better beam pattern.

If the reflector is good and your lenses are just pitted from stones, you can buy new lenses. I would shy away from higher voltage bulbs, just because the additional heat will destroy the plastic electrical plug.

Klaus this could be a great tip

Are you saying that the 00 C70 headlight assemblies are physically compatible with the early S/V/C70 cars, and that they can both easily be installed and have better performance?

But they are hard to find. Most C70 owners will not give them up. And it is the assemblies, not just the clear lenses that are needed.
