I have a Volvo 240 Sedan. The blower motor only works in high range for a moment, then it slowly tapers to nothing. Is this the resistor? Also, is there a site to free download the complete manual for this model? Where is the resistor and blower located?

Welcome to this site. Try re-postng this in the RWD section. It does sound like it is an electrical problem in nature. When the blower motor goes bad makes a high pitch squealing noise. Tt is located in the center of the dash behind the radio. The 240 joke is Volvo builds the car around the blower motor.

A good manual is made by Bentley, known as the "bently Bible'. I am not aware of where it can be downloaded.

If you do a search there is many write ups on the 240 blower motor repair and replacement.
