number of teeth between intake and exh. timing marks ? V70-XC70 2004

I'm putting a timing belt in Mary's 2004 V70 2.5T. Does anyone know how many teeth are between the timing marks on the intake and exhaust cams ? i.e.

,U U U U U U U U U U U U U U U U U U U, .

I have 19, but reading about the guy who wrecked his head by turning the motor over by hand, I want to be sure it is right.

Thanks

Greg

I am a little slow sometimes. I just realized that Mary's V70 only has 75K miles on it. The timing belt replacement wasn't due until 105K miles. So make sure the Tbelt sticker is promimently placed so someone else does't replace it at 105K. Next change at 180K.

The Haynes manual recommends an 80,000 mile interval with 40,000 for severe service. And I thought that the 105,000 mile spec was something about Volvo not wanting to change timing belts in California.

For the price of the belt, tensioner, idler, and most of a day figuring out how it all comes apart, not worrying about a bunch of bent valves was worth it. Next time (in 75,000 miles) I'll change the water pump too. Maintenence is cheap. Repairs are expensive.

Now if I could just find where they hid the fuel filter...

The fuel filter is just above the rear axle.

All volvos have a 105K belt starting with 1999, along witth the manual tensioner. Changing it before 105 is a good thing. Water pumps usually last at least 180K miles, depending on the type of antifreeze used.

I didn't count that many, but all I have is a picture from Bay13 and an 850. Your tensioner pully is probably not tight enough when re-installing.

I had another look at it, reset the intake cam, and wound up with 18 teeth between the timing marks. The car started up, ran and did not set any code.

The new tensioner was not the same as the original. If this works, there should be a picture of it somewhere in this post.
