I know it will vary with use, but just curioous on some thoughts. I am replacing front struts on my 98 V70 w/170k miles.

Should I just go ahead and do the rear shocks too? Ride quality isn't awful but would it be good to replace them all the way around?

    I replaced the rear shocks on my 95' 854 at or around 170K miles. I immediately regretted it as the originals were fine. I proceeded with the change since one box was already open... No perceived improvement in ride quality.

    Your call, but I wouldn't do it just because you're doing the fronts.

    Take a look at the rear shocks first. If you car has Nivomats (self leveling) they will probably be OK. If they are regular shocks, replace them when you do the struts. Buying all 4 at the same time is cheaper.
    Nivomats are very expensive! To check them, measure the distance from the top of the tire to the fender well, then put weight in the rear of the car to lower it about 1 inch or so. After weight is added, push up and down on the rear bumper. If the Nivomats are working, the car will rise up to the prior level.

      Cheaper in that there is a place that has a good package price for all four?

      I know of shox.com anything else you reccomend for good prices?

        Shox.com is great for buying all four corners at once. But you will also want to replace the shock/strut mounts at the same time.
        The XC90 strut spring seat will fit and is better quality.
        Go to the dealer and get replacement strut bolts for the best quality, they really get torqued on hard. Those from FCP are not quite as good.
