Evap system,throws codes every 20 miles V70-XC70 2005

I have an '05 V70 2.5T. I get the old "Fuel filler cap loose" message frequently, and then shortly after a CEL. I have a code reader, and I get P0442, and reset the codes. But it happens almost every time I drive the car.

A few months back, I had the EVAP software update at the dealer done that is supposed to be the latest and greatest. This got rid of one of the two codes I had been getting (0442 and another I can't remember), but now I get just 0442 a lot more frequently.

I suppose I am curious as if anybody had a similar experience. I have a certifies preowned warranty, and I am also wondering if the EVAP system is covered by it. The dealer gives me the standard "it may be covered, but we wouldn't know until we get in there."

Thanks for any tidbits. Don

I had a similar problem with my S60. The dealer replaced a part - some kind of relief valve, I believe - under the CPO warranty. It was three years ago, so I can't remember all the details. They had to remove the fuel tank to do it, after removing the custom trailer hitch that was in the way. No complaints, they just needed to re-schedule the work because the hitch R&R was going to add time to the job. Only cost me the deductible, and the warranty also paid for a rental car.

CPO covers EVAP system as part of the pollution control devices. A major leak could be the gas cap, but is probably a plastic elbow next to the fuel filter and rear wheel.
Your car is a Volvo CPO, call the service people and ask them if it is covered. They don't need to service the car before answering the question.
