Synthetic tranny fluid?? S60 2001

I just spent $395 to get a tranny flush/fluid replacement for my V70T5 in Tulsa. Seemed extreme to me.
The car had 127,500 miles on it so it was probably due for it. The fluid is supposed to be a Volvo-only
synthetic product and dealers sell it for around $80 for a 4-liter container.
I'm SURE that Volvo does not make tranny fluid, synthetic or other!
So the question is, are there other synthetic tranny fluids made to the same spec? Any names?
Thanks for any help you can give as my S60T5 will eventually be due for the same and I'd like to spend less.....
Sometimes being Scottish is such a pain!!

That's about right for the service, mostly due to the fluid expense. If you do a google search on that transmission fluid, you'll get a lot of information on it.

I think there was a thread on some other forum, I think maybe swedespeed, about this. By the time the thread was done, it denigrated (over screen page after screen page) into a flame war, but that's not really my point. That thread was interesting to read, not to mention entertaining. The google search that led to this thread is "volvo s60 transmission fluid flush". There was some information in the thread.

Mobil ATF 3309 is the common replacement for the trans fluid. Mobil makes it and it's listed as conforming to the JWS 3309 spec. Whether it is synthetic or not, I'm not sure. Castrol also makes a fluid that lists JWS 3309 for Aisin transmissions. Toyota T-IV fluid is apparently a JWS 3309 fluid also. Whether any of them are synthetic, I'm not sure.

You could have saved yourself about $300 by DIY and using Mobile 3309 ATF. The 3309 is the same as Volvo. Flushing yourself is quite easy, as the cooler hose at the radiator is disconnected and the old stuff pumped out using the tranny's own pump.
Many write ups here on how to do. Takes about 30 minutes.

FOUR BILLS?!?!

Bloody Hell, and I thought folks in Tulsa were God-Fearing!

As Klaus indicates, Mobile 3309 synthetic ATF is just dandy, and just about the best stuff on the planet. A bit pricey at ~$8/qt in my neighborhood, but at $70 for Mobil product and a 3 ft length of clear tubing, my 18 y.o. daughter did this job with me in a half hour.

I may be wrong, but isn't any DEX III also acceptable?
