cover over spark plugs 850 1996

I'm having a lot of trouble getting the screws to unscrew so that i can get the cover off the top of the engine block to check the spark plugs. I've tried screw drivers and wrenches and they still wont budge. what i was wondering was wether it is okay to use something like liquid wrench or wd40 or would it drip down into the plugs?

Those torx screws are a real pain. I made sure I had a good grip with the torx bit, pushed down hard, and gave the handle a rapid twist. Once it breaks loose, it come off easily. During replacement, I oiled the screw and fitted a small washer to help the next time. Don't screw them down hard, just snug.

Check the date stamped on the plug wires, if it is 95/96 it is probably time to replace them :)

don't worry about oil getting into the plugs. the spark plug boots seal the opening great. there are little depressions everywhere under the cover that catch oil that it spilled on the cover when adding oil. when you get the cover off, you will see what i'm talking about. use all the PB Blaster you want. You might want to try spraying the Blaster on a warm engine and try taking the screws out when the engine cools.....

Those are Torx screws and they should come out easily as they screw into aluminum and can't be rusted in place. Spray the heck out of them with PB Blaster and then go down to Sears or Auto Zone and get the proper Torx driver for the job. Do not use a flat head screw driver or a big phillips. Do not over tighten when putting back on or you will crack the plastic cover. Screw them all down a little bit at a time.

Your best bet is use a ratchet with a small extension bar with the torx bit. This will give you more leverage than a screwdriver.
