850 Sedan Front License Plate Bracket Install ??? 850 1997

Hi,

I'm probably overthinking this, but I don't want to mess up my car. I have an OEM front plate bracket that I need to install. I got it from the dealer and it has no screws that came with it. Is there a proper way to install it securely, or can I get a couple self-tapping screws and just mount it centered?

Thanks in advance.

I assume your having to this because your probation officer wants to put one of those bright pink plates on your car that says "DWI" or "PUNK"....

If you don't know how to measure or use a drill, just center the plate as good as you can and use a .32 caliber to punch a couple holes in the bumper. Try not to hit the radiator. If you do, just add water when the needle gets in the red area.

The front plate requires 2 holes to be drilled through the front bumper. I am always a little reluctant to put holes in my car and hoping to get it right the first time :)

The dealer is used to doing this and has the 2 brass screws in the parts dept. Either buy the 2 screws from them and hope you drill properly, or ask nicely at the dealer and hope that they won't charge you a bunch for a 5 minute operation.

Thanks a bunch. I appreciate the coherent, adult response, vice that of an obvious moron. I don't mind drilling holes in the car, I just want to be sure they are the right holes in the right location.

I realize the measure twice method works and it is very hard to make holes in a pristene bumper. That is why I suggested a Volvo dealer. They do it for every new car that is sold there.
The screws are self taping, because they go into the metal part of the bumper, but I don't know the length. Also a good reason to spend a couple of bucks to get the correct screws.

If you knew the exact position of the plate holder, you could scribe the hole marks and make sure the dealer follows your lead.

I needed to put a plate on a brand new Mercedes and chickened out!! I let a dealer do it while I wasn't looking :)

If you can't/don't want to go to the dealer, I could measure the locations on mine and post back tomorrow morning.
Also a thin plate frame is recommended.
