ECC problems? V70-XC70 1999

My recirculation and a/c on lights blinked. I looked in the manual and it says it's an ECC problem. My heat works fine. What do you think is wrong? I don't see anything strange. I restarted the car & they didn't come on again.

    ECC problems? V70-XC70 1999

It is an ECC problem, but going to the dealer is quite expensive to get the code. When the lights blink, the automatic function turns off, the fan is put on low speed, and the vents remain in the position they were in.

Most cases, the problem is a clogged/dirty cabin temp sensor. Clean it and the error will go away.

        ECC problems? V70-XC70 1999

Why did I know you were going to ask me that?
The blank switch plate next to the ECC unit has a grill in it. The temp sensor is behind that. BUT, it doesn't pop out. Pull out the radio and balance it on the shift knob, then grab the ECC unit from underneath and behind and pull it out - that usually takes a little force the first time. Unplug the ECC unit and put it on the floor, then push the radio back in.
Now you can reach behind the temp sensor. There are 2 small plastic tabs in the top and bottom of the round cylinder next to the grill. Push them in and pull towards the front of the car. Be very careful, the small copper sensor is very fragile and cannot be bent, and it sticks out of the plastic.
Clean the small fan blades, I used a round toothpick and q-tip, getting all of the dust bunnies out and the blades turning freely.
Putting the sensor back is a challange, there is very little room to work with. Once it is plugged back in, shove the ECC back in and start the car.

Now check engine light, connected? V70-XC70 1999

I haven't gotten around to cleaning the sensor.
But today my check engine light came on. Is it related? The book says the light is related to a fault in the emission system. Volvo wants $91 to look and I think I'm gonna just take it to autozone to get codes.

The ECC will NEVER turn on a CEL. They are not related.

Most autoparts stores will let you use a scanner for free. Autozone will not necessarily clear the code. But write down the Pnnnn number so you can look it up:

              Thanks,
I'm gonna go this morning to have it checked out, but strange thing is, the light went away. Will it still carry a code?

It might have a "pending" code, but you might be out of luck and have to wait until the CEL comes back on.
