OBD ll scanner - looking to buy one S70 1999

I am looking to buy a handheld obd ll scanner.
So far Equus and autoxray look to be nice units.
I am not sure at this point if I need graphable kind or not.
I don't mind spending more to be prepared for later problems, nor do I want to regret buying a lower model when a higher model would have been better.
Live readings seem to be a nice feature that can be used at times.
So any input by any brickheads (lol) who have first hand knowledge in using any of these models (or others) would be appreciated.
This is for a '99 S-70 T-5. I might be buying a 09 S-60 within the year so I would like to be able to use a scanner on that as well.
I have to trouble shoot a p0442 code and looks like being able to clear the codes as I troubleshoot the evap system till I find the problem area will be helpful.
thanks for your contributions :)

I bought the Equus for the P0442 S70 1999

I would be willing to bet MOST people buy these things for the P0442, at least Volvo owners. I had the Volvo software update done for the EVAP system, and I'm still getting that lousy code on my '05 V70. At least with the reader you can reset that silly thing.

I haven't had to use the reader on my '98 S70 yet.

I like the Equus 3030. You can scroll through the codes and erase them if you want. It shows readiness monitors but I don't know if they are accurate.

I don't have a need for realtime monitoring of any engine parameters. If you want that this isn't your unit. Good luck.

ps I saw something recently about displaying OBD codes on the Volvo information display in some model by pressing a sequence of switches, unless I have completely lost my mind...

For your p0442, chek this thread:

As to which scanner YOU should buy, just be sure it has the CAN protocol for the newer cars. There are a lot on the market, and the features go up with price. None of those made in the USA will have Volvo specific codes, P1nnn or P2nnn. There is a Swedish or Danish company that makes a scanner just for Volvo for around 250Euros.

Thanks Klaus.
I really appreciate and admire your dedication on helping fellow Volvo enthusiasts.
I am still hunting down a scanner that will work well for me.I will call a few of them to see what they have to say about what my needs are.
I will try and track down the swedish makes too.

Just for fun, try a google search for "scanner+volvo+vag". VAG is the new software for the newer Volvos.

Looks like the Vag is for newer Volvos only?
I need one for my 1999 S-70 T-5.
What can you tell me about the vag system?
I am leary about ordering from China of what might be untested electronics....does sound interesting.

The Vag is for 2007+ models. All you really need is one that has real time data displayed for the O2 sensors. About $100 or less.
Ebay and Amazon are good places to shop online.
