Heater Core V70-XC70 2002

My Driver side Rug was wet under my winter mat. Thought perhaps I had a rip or tear in the mat... Started to vacuum the carpet and noticed it was green... Probing around I find a slight drip coming frrom around where the floor heat exits near the gas pedal. I assume it's the heater core. What does it take to get at the core? Could it be something else? I looked on both FCP & IPD and they don't seem to stock, any suggestions? With all that goes wrong with this XC70, why are the parts so hard to get?

The heater core is easy to get to. It could be just the 2 O rings that failed, or the entire core. You have to remove the kick panels to see the core.

As for parts, yours is the second year of the P2 and the 2003 should fit.

If the O-Rings Failed, would it leak into the Cabin Floor or leak eternally into the Engine Compartment?

There are 2 metal pipes from the firewall to the heater core. At the junction are O rings. Any leakage would result in a wet floor.

Got it. So it sounds like the Heater Hoses Connect to these metal pipes and the metal pipes connect to the Heater Core, correct?

Klaus, do you know where I can find a procedure to get at the Heater core?

          Thanks

          Kevin

The heater hoses go from the engine block to the firewall. The metal pipes go from the firewall to the core.
Check Volvospeed.com, Bay13, on replacement procedures.

I think it's a fair assumption that there are o-rings on the interior side of the firewall. Tube in, tube out. Makes sense to have a break in the line at the firewall and at the heater core, for ease of assembly. That's how the 850 is put together.
